Since I got to the age where walking around in heels all day is akin to sticking my face in to boiling hot fat whilst having a each tendon in my foot extracted with tweezers and hammered in to a nearby fence (graphic enough for you?), I thought I'd bring your attention to my favourite footwear.

They haven't always been fashionable, but ever since Lily Allen decided to bang on a pair of trainers with a vintage frock they have managed to go mainstream and we can now even get away with them in the office. I wear mine with jumpsuits, trousers, dresses... they just need to not look like you're going trekking the Andes or running a marathon.

Once a purchase I dreaded making as it meant one thing - exercise - now they are an extreme thing of comfort and beauty, and bugger me, they look fabulous with so many outfits. I may or may not have several (15) pairs.

Here's the Feeling Flush pick of trainers that you DON'T go running in...

These beauties from Ted Baker at Dune are perfect with jeans, shorts, trousers or a dress. Feminine, pretty and ageless!

Air and Grace are one of my favourite trainer brands - great designs, so comfortable (see their piece on technology in the sole) and although not cheap, they do last and look even better with wear. Also check out their espadrilles whilst you're there.

Want stars on your trainers but not the hefty price tag? Next has your back. In several colours these are a mere £35! I may or may not have ordered these when researching...

Want the Gucci look without the eye watering Gucci bill? Ash (another fave of mine) have some trainers in the sale at Office... Not for the faint hearted, but fun and perfectly acceptable if you're 40, 50 or 60. Just don't wear them with a twin set and pearls or else I will need to have a word...

Want to keep in plain? These Stan Smith Originals tick every box!

Now go forth and shop and SAVE YOUR CALVES!!!
